Multi-Media Storybook
A few weeks ago we shared an activity to have your child create their own book. To take this activity one step further gather multi-media items to really bring your child’s story to life. Feel free to have them use their crayons, markers and colored pencils, but also open their eyes to household materials such as magazines, jewels, glitter, paper dolls, etc.
Give your child construction paper stapled in the form of a book and have them create a book of their own.
Materials:
- Construction Paper
- Stapler
- Glue
- Magazines
- An assortment of other items you have around the house
Age-appropriate Adaptations:
- Two-year-olds—Ask your child their favorite color and assist them in searching through magazines and grocery ads and cutting out items that are their favorite color. Have them glue these pictures into their book to create a “My Favorite Color” book. Read their book during bedtime.
- Three-year-olds—Have your child draw pictures on each of the pages in their book, ask them about their story, and write your child’s story. Read their book during bedtime.
- Four-/Five-year-olds—Have your child draw pictures for their own story. Assist them in sounding out and spelling words so they can write the words to their story. Read their book during bedtime.
