Recreate a Family Vacation
Families are so important to us at Cadence Education and we recognize that each family is special! It’s important to us that you share your family traditions, practices, and culture within your child’s classroom. When each child’s family background is celebrated, all the children learn to appreciate what makes each person unique. Such experiences help students be more likely to grow up respecting others and interacting harmoniously with the diverse people around them.
During the Spring and Summer months, many families typically go on trips or vacations. You child may miss going on family trips or seeing extended family members. Try one of the activities below to recreate a favorite family vacation. Don’t forget to share what you did with us on our school Facebook page or in class when you return. By doing so, you will not only be supporting your child’s developing self-image and family-identity, but you will also be giving her a greater sense of belonging in the classroom environment. Please let us know how else we can help support your family during this time.
Age-appropriate Adaptations:
- Two-year-olds—Why not spend time together looking at pictures or souvenirs from previous family trips or events? Encourage your child to name familiar people, places, and objects in the pictures. Share your favorite memories together.
- Three-year-olds—Try recreating a favorite family treat or activity that your family usually experiences on trips. For example, if you always eat chocolate chip cookies at family reunions, make a batch with your child today. Another idea would be to put on dress up clothes to pretend you are returning to Cinderella’s castle at Disney.
- Four-/Five-year-olds—Invite your child to draw a picture of her favorite family trip or of a trip you plan to take some time in the future. Ask him to share what he likes about that trip.
